Alex Pedder
Chief Executive
Having left Nottingham University Business School, Alex joined the Wates Group on a graduate programme. He moved to the estate agency business setting up a highly successful Land and New Homes department specialising in the disposal of development opportunities and the sale of new homes. Alex then took a more involved role in the development of the company progressing to Director level and on to Chief Executive. In this role he has executed a substantial change programme across the organisation optimising the structure, marketing and operational practices of the business creating an attractive, profitable and progressive company. He has a passion for the industry and sectors in which he works. Alex is married with two children and in his spare time enjoys most sports particularly golf, motor cars and boating / water sports.
Alan Pedder CBE
Chairman
Alan is a mechanical engineer by profession with a long career in ICI where he was CEO of a number of global businesses. He has held a number of non-executive directorships including Chairman of AECI Ltd. and Remploy Ltd. and currently Baronsmead VCT4 plc. Public appointments have included IDAB, BTC and London South Bank University. He has also acted as a consultant to companies large and small, engaged in strategy, business development, marketing, M&A and executive development. He is currently engaged with two companies developing in the Superyacht market in Palma-Mallorca. Alan is married with four children and enjoys boating, skiing, cars and golf and was awarded the CBE in 2004 for services to disabled people.
Julian Hill
Finance Director
Julian is a finance director with quoted plc director experience at a number of companies who has added significant value to entrepreneurial businesses by managing growth, initiating change and turnaround including diversification, acquisitions, start-ups, mergers, disposals and eliminating surplus costs. Julian qualified as a chartered accountant with Deloitte Touche (London) where he was in the corporate finance department. Since then he has held senior management positions with a number of companies in a variety of industries including St Ives plc (a mid cap stock exchange quoted printing group), CSS Stellar (the largest UK AIM quoted sports marketing company) and Harper_Downie (a medium sized firm of architects).
Tim Wates
Non-Executive Director
Tim is the Chairman of Wates Group, one of the UK’s largest privately owned construction property services and development businesses – operating nationally with 4,500 employees and revenues of over £1.7bn.
Tim started his career at Cazenove & Co. in the City prior to joining the Wates Group in 1993, where he has held a number of roles around finance and housing. He was appointed Deputy Chairman in October 2022 and became Chairman in May 2023. Tim previously served as Chairman of the Wates Family Council, the Family Shareholder forum.
Tim is a Non-Executive Director of Tampopo (restaurants). He is the proud holder of an MBA from Cambridge Judge Business School and serves on the Advisory Board.
Society & charity work
Tim is a Trustee/Patron of various Wates Family charities (including the William Wates Memorial Trust) and is a Deputy Lieutenant of Surrey. In March 2023 he was installed as High Sheriff of Surrey for a one-year term.
For six years he was Chairman of the Coast to Capital Local Enterprise Partnership, completing his two terms in July 2020, he was a Trustee Director of the Clink Charity from 2011 – April 2023, a Prime Minister’s UK Business Ambassador from 2012-2018 and a state school Governor from 2005-2015.
Outside work, he likes to spend time with his family and his Corgis, enjoys food and wine and plays a weekly game of indoor football.
