At Dulwich and Sydenham Hill we have used the support from Pedder to establish and grow our junior golfing programme.
We currently have 130 children taking part at various levels outlined below:
Dulwich Colts - about 70 children between the ages of 5-12 are provided with group coaching on a weekly basis, all year round, from a PGA qualified professional. Parents pay an annual sum, but the club heavily subsidises this to make it accessible to all children, not just those whose parents are club members. The whole Colts programme is aimed to provide the children with a pathway through to junior membership.
Golf Access - What is Golf Access? (golfaccessprogram.com) A scheme which enable the children to be introduced to playing on the course in a structured way. They start by playing 3 short holes and gradually work there way up to playing 9 holes. These sessions are held 2-3 times a month with about 40 children taking part, the youngest being just 5 years old. Sessions are free and part of the initial payment for Colts.
Junior Golf Coaching - The club provides free coaching to juniors who wish to improve their golf. These sessions are held every Saturday and provided by one of our assistant golf pros.
Girls Golf Rocks - Girls Golf Rocks 2022 - England Golf A programme supported by England Golf aimed at encouraging girls to try out golf. We have provided 2 x 6 week courses this summer. Although this is supported financially by England Golf it still needs a 50% subsidy from the club.
Overall, the aim of the junior programme at Dulwich is aimed to make golf accessible to children from a wide range of backgrounds. We have a significant number of children taking part whose parents do not play golf. For beginners, in addition to providing coaching, we supply clubs and any other equipment required.
